The Zonta Club of Ashburton recently hosted Lesley Elliot, mother of Sophie Elliot who was murdered by her ex boyfriend in 2008. Lesley has established the Sophie Elliot Foundation which aims to support a shift in attitude towards relationship violence.
The foundation is committed to delivering a school based programme to better prepare young people to take care of themselves when they are most vulnerable.
Lesley spoke to year 12 students at both Ashburton and Mount Hutt Colleges, followed by a public forum in the evening.
To assist the foundation meet this goal the Ashburton Zonta club donated $2000 to the foundation.
