Zonta Young Women in Leadership Award recognizes young women, ages 16-19, for demonstrating leadership skills and commitment to public service and community causes, and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life. Since 1990, Zonta has given 1,165 awards, totalling US$1,858,750 to 993 young women from 60 countries.
The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels.
You apply to the Zonta Club of Ashburton – NZ$1000 scholarship available – Deadline December 12, 2025 – Application form attached. You must include 2 referees and a confirmation of enrolment at your school – these forms are at the back of the application form. Please ensure all forms are sent to ashburton@zonta.org.nz by the deadline date.
Special note: PLEASE make sure you INCLUDE in your application a list of ALL scholarships and AWARDS you have applied for or in the process of applying for – even if you have not heard the result as this information is used as part of the national and international judging criteria.
The winner in Ashburton will be put forward for the New Zealand Scholarship – a further NZ$1000.
The New Zealand winner is put forward to the global committee which offers 37 awards of US $5000 each.
Eligibility
Women, aged 16-19 on 1st April each year, living in a Zonta district or who are citizens of a Zonta country, who demonstrate evidence of the following, are eligible to apply.
- Active commitment to volunteerism.
- Experience in local government, student government, or workplace leadership (paid or unpaid).
- Volunteer leadership achievements.
- Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs.
- Support in Zonta International’s mission of building a better world for women and girls.
